Greetings.
My wife and I just returned from a 15 day roadtrip in New Zealand. We got into O'Hare around midnight and ended up getting to Milwaukee around noon Tuesday. So today I was back at it and headed to work feeling quite jet lagged. I felt so out of it that I couldn't put my contacts in and felt a bit disoriented and tired. This might be because I finally got to sleep around 3am and got up at 7 but who knows...
So I get in my car, which has been dormant for over 2 weeks, and started driving to work like usual. As you probably could guess, the cars drive on the left side of the road over there, so I was pretty damn used to driving that way after doing it every day for 2 weeks. I figured all along I'd be fine when I got back to the states.
Not so. I drove down 3 different streets this morning on the left side of the road. I didn't even realize it til I was trying to turn onto a busy street. Three full city blocks - somehow i managed not to hit any traffic.
I got back on track and made it near my store, and stopped to get gas. After guessing correctly which side my gas tank was on I got out, entered my credit card, and took off the gas cap. As I reached in for the gas cap, I felt a quick stab to my hand. I walked to my seat and sat down, puzzled. It really kind of hurt. I examined my hand closer and saw a tiny cut and for the life of me could not figure out what the hell stabbed me.
I walked back out with no clue, although my jet lagged brain was working hard to figure it out. At this point my hand was swelled up. Finally I bent down to get a closer look only to find a huge hornet sitting in there! It scared me for a second and I backed off. Then I grabbed the window washer thing and attempted to get it out that way. I looked in my car for some rubbish I could use to pluck the hornet out with, and found a cardboard scrap. I bent down to get him out not only the hornet but his NEST! A fucking hornets nest above my gas cap.
At this time I re-grabbed the window washer thing and just doused the whole cavity, washing away the hornet and his nest.
Somehow everything else went smoothly for the rest of the day even considering my car was running on unleaded spiked with windshield washer fluid.
So long,
Dave g
